Warm Beach Christian Camps and Conference Center
Warm Beach Christian Camps and Conference Center Master Plan
Harmsen worked with the staff and architect for the Warm Beach Christian Camps and Conference Center on their 30-year Master Plan Update on the Puget Sound.
Multi-Use Camp - This 268-acre site lies along Port Susan to the west with a large marine bluff that separates the low beach and pasture lands from the upper camp area. The lower portion of the camp is primarily used as part of the Horsemanship Camp along with beach access for kayaking and canoeing.
Upper Camp - The upper portion of the camp contains the lodges, RV camping, cabins and individual camp sites that support the conference center. Drainage is a large concern for the camp due to the marine bluff and the poorly draining soils in the Horsemanship Camp. Several streams flow through the site that discharge via a tide gate and pump system through the existing dikes.
Low-Impact Design - We created a number of low impact design features for the site including porous pavements and rain gardens as well as dispersion of runoff. In our design and planning. We focused on maintaining the rural character of the site while providing for the future growth of the camp and conference program.
Innovative Parking - Parking was placed throughout the park rather than in a single location to lower the visual and drainage impacts. Critical areas are being protected through setbacks and Best Management Practices.
